Diagnostics
If a warning light has appeared on your dashboard or your car isn’t driving the way it should, a diagnostic check will find out why. At Ian Grieve Service Centre, we use Bosch KTS diagnostic equipment to read the fault codes stored in your car’s computer systems, then our technicians investigate further to pinpoint the exact cause.
As a Bosch Car Service centre, we have access to the same kind of diagnostic technology and technical data that manufacturers rely on, and we can diagnose faults on most makes and models at our workshop just off Glasgow Road.
Modern cars monitor almost everything, from the engine and gearbox to the brakes and airbags. It’s worth booking a diagnostic check if you notice any of the following:
Our KTS equipment plugs into your car’s diagnostic port and communicates with each of its control units. Alongside Bosch’s software, it gives our technicians access to fault codes, live data from sensors, and detailed repair information for a huge range of vehicles.
Being able to view live data is especially useful as it lets us watch how components are behaving while the engine is running, so we can spot problems that only show up under certain conditions, such as when the car is warm or under load.
A fault code tells us which system has detected a problem, but it doesn’t always reveal the root cause; for example, a code pointing to an oxygen sensor could be triggered by the sensor itself, a wiring fault, or an air leak elsewhere in the engine.
That’s why our technicians use the code as a guide and then carry out further tests to confirm what’s really wrong. It saves you from paying for parts that don’t fix the problem, and it means the repair is done properly the first time.
Hybrid and electric vehicles rely heavily on software and electronics, from battery management to regenerative braking. Our technicians work on these vehicles regularly, and our Bosch diagnostic equipment allows us to check their systems and identify faults safely and accurately.
When your car comes in for diagnostics, we’ll:
No repair work goes ahead without your approval, and any parts we fit are original equipment, backed by the manufacturer’s parts warranty.
You’re welcome to wait in our comfortable waiting area with free Wi-Fi, or we can collect your car and return it free of charge from across Falkirk, Larbert, Denny, and Bonnybridge.
The cost depends on the fault and how much investigation is needed to find the cause. We’ll confirm the price of the diagnostic check when you book, and once we know what’s wrong, you’ll receive a clear quote for the repair before any work begins.
If the light is steady and the car feels normal, it’s usually safe to drive for a short time, but you should get it checked as soon as possible. A flashing engine light often indicates a serious misfire, so it’s best to stop driving and call us for advice.
Reading the fault codes only takes a few minutes, but tracing the cause can take longer depending on the problem. We’ll keep you updated and let you know once we’ve found the fault.
The equipment points us to the system with the problem, and our technicians then carry out further tests to confirm the exact cause. This combination gives a far more reliable answer than a code reader alone.
Clearing the code will switch the light off, but it won’t fix the underlying fault, so the warning is likely to return. Leaving a problem unresolved can also lead to more expensive damage later on.
As a Bosch Car Service centre with 1link, Euro Repar, and IMI accreditations, we have access to the training, technical data, and quality parts needed to look after your car properly, whatever make or model you drive.
