EV Repairs & Servicing – Falkirk

Electric and hybrid vehicles need regular servicing just like any other car, and they need technicians trained to work on high-voltage systems safely. At Ian Grieve Service Centre, our technicians are trained to IMI Level 4 in electric and hybrid vehicle repair, which covers the diagnosis and repair of high-voltage components.

We service and repair electric and hybrid vehicles on most makes and models at our workshop just off Glasgow Road in Falkirk, following the manufacturer’s schedule so your warranty remains intact.

What IMI Level 4 training means for you

The Institute of the Motor Industry sets recognised qualification levels for working on electric and hybrid vehicles. Lower levels cover basic awareness and routine tasks, while Level 4 is the highest, allowing technicians to diagnose faults and work on high-voltage systems.

For you, that means your car is being looked after by people who understand how these systems work and how to handle them safely. It also means we can do far more than basic checks, so there’s no need to go back to a main dealer for every fault.

Electric car servicing

With no engine oil, spark plugs, or clutch to worry about, an electric car has fewer parts that need regular replacement; however, there are still plenty of components that wear or need checking, and some wear faster because of the vehicle’s extra weight.

A typical electric vehicle service includes:

  • Inspection of the high-voltage battery, cables, and connectors
  • Checks on the battery cooling system and coolant levels
  • Brake inspection, including discs and calipers, which can corrode from lack of use due to regenerative braking
  • Tyre and suspension checks, as heavier vehicles often wear these more quickly
  • Testing the 12-volt battery that powers the car’s standard electrics
  • Cabin filter replacement and air conditioning checks
  • A diagnostic scan of the vehicle’s systems for stored fault codes

Hybrid servicing

Hybrids combine a petrol or diesel engine with an electric motor and battery, so they need care for both systems. As well as the usual engine servicing, such as oil and filter changes, we’ll check the hybrid battery, its cooling system, and the high-voltage components to make sure everything is working together properly.

Electric and hybrid repairs

When something goes wrong, our technicians use Bosch KTS diagnostic equipment to read fault codes and live data from your vehicle’s battery management and control systems. From there, we’ll track down the cause, whether it’s a charging issue, a warning light, reduced range, or a problem with the brakes or suspension.

Before any repair goes ahead, we’ll explain what we’ve found and what it will cost; any parts we fit are original equipment, backed by the manufacturer’s parts warranty.

Why choose us

Plenty of garages can work on conventional cars, but fewer have technicians trained to work on high-voltage systems at this level. As a Bosch Car Service centre, we also have access to up-to-date technical data, and our pricing is usually more competitive than the average main dealer’s.

We’ve been a family business in Falkirk since 1991, and we’ll always give you honest advice about what your car needs. If it’s easier, we offer free collection and delivery across Larbert, Denny, Bonnybridge, and the surrounding areas.
