EV Repairs & Servicing
Electric and hybrid vehicles need regular servicing just like any other car, and they need technicians trained to work on high-voltage systems safely. At Ian Grieve Service Centre, our technicians are trained to IMI Level 4 in electric and hybrid vehicle repair, which covers the diagnosis and repair of high-voltage components.
We service and repair electric and hybrid vehicles on most makes and models at our workshop just off Glasgow Road in Falkirk, following the manufacturer’s schedule so your warranty remains intact.
The Institute of the Motor Industry sets recognised qualification levels for working on electric and hybrid vehicles. Lower levels cover basic awareness and routine tasks, while Level 4 is the highest, allowing technicians to diagnose faults and work on high-voltage systems.
For you, that means your car is being looked after by people who understand how these systems work and how to handle them safely. It also means we can do far more than basic checks, so there’s no need to go back to a main dealer for every fault.
With no engine oil, spark plugs, or clutch to worry about, an electric car has fewer parts that need regular replacement; however, there are still plenty of components that wear or need checking, and some wear faster because of the vehicle’s extra weight.
A typical electric vehicle service includes:
Hybrids combine a petrol or diesel engine with an electric motor and battery, so they need care for both systems. As well as the usual engine servicing, such as oil and filter changes, we’ll check the hybrid battery, its cooling system, and the high-voltage components to make sure everything is working together properly.
When something goes wrong, our technicians use Bosch KTS diagnostic equipment to read fault codes and live data from your vehicle’s battery management and control systems. From there, we’ll track down the cause, whether it’s a charging issue, a warning light, reduced range, or a problem with the brakes or suspension.
Before any repair goes ahead, we’ll explain what we’ve found and what it will cost; any parts we fit are original equipment, backed by the manufacturer’s parts warranty.
Plenty of garages can work on conventional cars, but fewer have technicians trained to work on high-voltage systems at this level. As a Bosch Car Service centre, we also have access to up-to-date technical data, and our pricing is usually more competitive than the average main dealer’s.
We’ve been a family business in Falkirk since 1991, and we’ll always give you honest advice about what your car needs. If it’s easier, we offer free collection and delivery across Larbert, Denny, Bonnybridge, and the surrounding areas.
The cost depends on your vehicle and where it is in the manufacturer’s service schedule. Electric car servicing is often cheaper than servicing a petrol or diesel car, since there are fewer parts to replace, and we’ll confirm the price before any work goes ahead.
Most manufacturers recommend a service every year or at a set mileage, though some schedules run to two years. We’ll follow the schedule set for your specific vehicle.
We service electric and hybrid vehicles in line with the manufacturer’s schedule using original equipment parts, which keeps your warranty intact. This is especially important for battery warranties, which often depend on the car being properly maintained.
Yes, regenerative braking means the brakes are used less often, which can lead to corrosion and seized calipers, so regular inspections are important.
Yes, our technicians are trained to IMI Level 4, which covers the diagnosis and repair of high-voltage systems. We’ll check the battery’s health as part of a service and investigate any faults or warning messages.
Yes, we service and repair full hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric vehicles on most makes and models.
As a Bosch Car Service centre with 1link, Euro Repar, and IMI accreditations, we have access to the training, technical data, and quality parts needed to look after your car properly, whatever make or model you drive.
